If you are like me concerned about our country but do not have a lot of time to devote to be part of the electioneering process, than you are probably very concerned right now. Never before have I been so concerned that a segment of our leaders are determined to drive the United States over the edge. They seem determined to weaken and hobble our great country under the guise of economic reform. The latest manufactured " debt ceiling crises" is the ultimate example of how a minority can wreak havoc. Already as a result of these shenanigans, the financial markets are reflecting global concern that the United States is now politically as well as economically unstable. If this so called Tea Party gets its way, than we can expect China to take over as the most powerful nation in the world a lot quicker than policy makers expected. And if that happens than that means that instead of the Soviet Union winning war for Communism it will be the Chinese.
What is important now is that common sense must come into the political equation and right this tipping ship that we call the United States. To get a sense where we need to go we need to knew where we have come from. it must first be noted that the current ideology of the Republican Party is Libertarianism. Libertarians essentially beleive that there should be no government and if there has to be one than it should only be concerned with defense of the borders, defense of the nation and defense of the literal interpretation of the Constitution. In short every man and women for themselves. There is merit to their ideas but taken to their logical conclusion the United States would be a second rate nation with one of the lowest standard of living in the world.
The current batch the so called Tea Partiers are even further along the politcal spectrum than their 1994 Republicans. But what links them,in addition to their ideaology .is their willingness to not work with the other side. The Repuiblicans are idealogues and like idealogues everywhere agreeing on a joint compromise is selling out. These tea party representives will look to break all the rules and again hold the majority as hostages to their ideaology.
There is no doubt that Tea Party is the result of what has happened in the last 10 years. The actions of Congress and the events post 9/11 have taken us here. There is no doubt that we as a nation were sickened by the government helping the very banks who causes this economic recession. It seemed that bad behavior was rewarded. But what this does not explain is that unwillingness of the Tea Party members to work with those who believe that without the help of government our economy is going to down the drain.
Both private sector and the government must work together if we are get out of this hole that we call the deficit. But in this complex world where money has no national loyalty, there are no simple answers. Everything is related and that is why it is important to kick out the Tea Party from the legislative process. Because the Tea Party are people who want things to be simple. They want the world as it was at one time in our history. They want to reject all that we have accomplished and they are willing to go to extremes to achieve their objective. And right now, our country cannot afford extremists we need centrists.
